SANTO DOMINGO

CLIMATE:

-Average annual temperature is 25 degrees Celsius.
-The climate:- Tropical in the coastal areas.
- Cooler and dry in the interior of the country.

-The rainy season:- North coast ranges from October to April to May.
- South coast from May to October-November.


FOOD AND DRINK:


-The main features: - It is delicious.
- The food are made with rice combined with some types of meat.
- Each region has its own dishes.
- Dominican cuisine reflects Spanish and African influence.
- There is much variety.


-The most typical dishes:

a) Stew: -the most popular dish and representative of the Dominican kitchen.
-it is prepared for special occasions.
-it is made with beef.

b) Flag: -it is not lacking in any Dominican table.
-it is made up of just white rice, beans (red color) and meat.

c) Moro: -a mixture of beans, rice and beef stew.
-in many cases and places it is accompanied with cod.

d) Locrio: -it is most similar to Spanish paella.
-it can be combined with shrimp, prawns, herring, sardines and cod.

e)Plantain:-they are a key fitting complement and Dominican cuisine.
-the tostones are green, fried with a touch of salt, vinegar, and garlic.

f)Cassava rolls:-they are made of cassava pellets and chips in the pan.
-Usually it is stuffed with cheddar cheese.

-The most typical drinks:

a) Beer.
b) Rum.


SIGHTSEEING::

a)The Columbus Lighthouse:
-it is farthest from the center of the city.
-it has a length of 800 meters long and consists of a cross on the ground.
-at nights it project a crucifix in the sky by a laser light.
-inside are human remains of Christopher Columbus.


b)The National Pantheon:
-it is built in neoclassical style gray limestone.

c)Museum of Modern Art:
-it is one of the best museums of modern art in Latin America.
-it has an extensive collection of contemporary Dominican art full of freshness, vitality and quality.

d)Museum of Dominican Man:
-it is one of the most important museums of the Dominican Republic.
-it has priceless pre-Columbian pieces.
-in this museum we approach the history of the ancient inhabitants of Santo Domingo, Tainos. You can admire ceramics, costumes and ancient art of those who were the first settlers in the Spanish.

e)The National Botanical Garden:
-it is located away from the center in the northwest of the city surrounded by upper middle class neighborhoods of the colonies of Arroyo Hondo.
-it covers an area of 180 hectares.





f)The colonial zone:
-it is one of the most touristy areas of the country.
-this area was declared by the UNESCO as World Heritage.

g)Boca Chica Beach:
-it is the most popular beach and near the capital Santo Domingo.
-it is surrounded by a large coral reef, has a spectacular turquoise water and covers up about one kilometer inside.
-all weekends and especially on Sundays and public holidays, Dominican families come here to spend the day. The weekend is fully packed with people.


h)There are other beautiful and interesting place to vistit like Alcazar de Colon, parks, viewpoint, botanical garden, the three eyes, the Caleta Submarine National Park, underground disco, rock art caves ...

GETTING AROUND:
There are many forms of public transportation in the city:

a)Flying buses or Bus (private):
-it is smaller that the normal bus.

b)Public cars or taxis:
-they are called "public cars"
-they are basically cars that serve as buses that travel along a defined route.
-they are a bit more expensive than the OMSA buses, but much less than regular taxis.

c)Motoconchos:
-they are motorcycles that offer taxi service.

d)Taxis:
-they are like all taxis in the world.
-they have no fixed stops or routes, and drivers are almost always willing to cross the entire country, according to customer needs.

e)Metro:
-it is an underground mass transit system and high consisting of five lines.
-the first line is already in service and has a length of 15 km.

f)Santo Domingo also has some airport and some ports.


ENTERTAINMENT:

-the inhabitants of Santo Domingo seem to never sleep.
-go out and share with all nations is very important for all Dominicans.
-in the evening they begin to fill the streets and terraces, bars and grocery stores began a flurry of activity.
-there are many places to go out at night in Santo Domingo.
- Merengue, salsa, bachata, boleros, music listening is not left in any corner of the city.
